SMC has partnered with Family Health International (FHI) since December 2005 to implement its HIV/AIDS prevention programme. The programme has been funded up to September 2009 for Phase-I. Since October 2009, FHI has been awarded the second phase of the funding named ‘Modhumita' from USAID for the next 52 months period. FHI has signed agreement with SMC for implementing Modhumita as well. The two major components of the SMC programme are: providing procurement and distribution support of different commodities such as condom, lubricant, Safer Sex Kit, Rapid Test Kits (RTKs) etc.; and offering services through SMC Modhumita Centres.
Currently 10 SMC Centres are operating in the following 10 separate strategic locations of the country:
- Barisal
- Mymensingh
- Benapole, Jessore
- Rajshahi
- Chittagong
- Sylhet
- Hilli, Dinajpur
- Tejgaon, Dhaka
- Khulna
- Tongi, Dhaka
Under the Modhumita programme, SMC Modhumita Centres offer services include Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI) services, Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), group awareness on HIV/AIDS and STI, awareness of correct use of condom, condom and lubricant distribution, awareness creation on TB and refer to GOB and NGO facilities for sputum test, etc.
During October 2009-September 2010, 10 SMC Modhumita Centers had the following programme achievements:
- 129,411 clients were contacted for awareness creation, STI and VCT services
- 11,748 clients received STI services
- 7,145 clients received VCT services
- 12,223 students received awareness on HIV/AIDS
- 11,463 out of School youth and Adolescents were oriented on HIV/AIDS
- 38,415 pieces demonstration were held on correct method of use

15,281,074 pieces of No-logo condoms and 1,140,000 Sathi 3 ml lubricant gel sachets were distributed to FHI Implementing agencies (IAs) through 11 SMC Area Offices.
