Government Officials Visited Activities of SMC Central Ware House

A 13-member government delegation led by Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Additional Director (Drugs & Stores), Central Ware House, DGFP, Mohakhali, Dhaka, paid a day-long visit to the SMC Central Ware House (CWH) and its adjacent ORSaline Factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh on December 08, 2010. On arrival at the CWH premises, they were received by SMC Factory in-Charge Mr. Pranab Majumder and other high officials.  The delegation included officials from the Central Warehouse, Dhaka; Regional Ware House (RWH), Chittagong; RWH Noakhali, RWH, Sylhet, RWH Mymensingh, RWH Jamalpur and L&S Unit, DGFP, Dhaka.

The delegation visited different sections of the CWH and expressed keen interest in the activities of the warehouse. The delegation saw the activities of the female packers and were amazed to see the pace and speed of the work of the packers. They also inspected the specially refrigerated store where injectable SOMA-JECT was stored and highly commended the efficient way in which the injectables were stored in controlled temperature.

The visitors were impressed with the neat and clean environment of the CWH and its surroundings and said that SMC’s Central Ware House was the model of an ideal ware house and it could be copied by the government. The barcode pilot project was also explained to them and the visitors asked about the high-quality warehousing system and fire-fighting system which SMC maintains so meticulously. They also were briefed on the LMIS system and its use. The distinguished visitors also paid a visit to the ORSaline Factory and production area where they were briefed on various aspects of ORSaline-N production.

A second batch of 16 government officials led by Mr. Md. Hanifur Rahman, Additional Director Warehouse, DGFP, Central Ware House, Mohakhali, Dhaka, also visited the SMC Central Ware House (CWH) and its adjacent ORSaline Factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh on December 09, 2010. The officials lauded the best practices being implemented in the CWH and observed that such practices may be replicated in the government warehouses.

The delegation visited different sections of the CWH and expressed keen interest in the activities of the warehouse. The visitors also compared the government procurement system with the SMC one and said that SMC’s procurement and sales forecast policy was much more flexible than the government system. The delegation was also briefed on the administrative formalities of the CWH and was briefed on the loading/unloading of the products, etc.
