SMC Showcases Market-Based Nutrition Model at 23rd International Congress of Nutrition in Paris

Toslim Uddin Khan, Managing Director & CEO of Social Marketing Company (SMC), and Md. Moshiur Rahman, GM-FI, represented SMC at the 23rd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN), held from 24-29 August 2025 at the Palais des Congrès de Paris, France. Organized every four years since 1946, the Congress brought together thousands of global experts under the theme "Sustainable Food for Global Health."

The SMC delegation participated in a wide range of sessions covering maternal, child, and community nutrition, including topics on sustainability and climate change, non-communicable diseases, precision and clinical nutrition, and food-based approaches for disease prevention.

A key highlight was SMC's participation in the panel discussion "From Policy to Scale-Up: Learnings from Countries at Various Stages of the Transition" on 28 August. MD & CEO presented SMC's market-based model for Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) in Bangladesh, emphasizing affordability, accessibility, and integration with community antenatal care. The presentation was highly appreciated by participants for showcasing how a private sector model can effectively deliver nutrition solutions at scale.

On the sidelines, SMC held bilateral meetings with the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Innocent Foundation, and Sight and Life (SAL) to explore collaborations on scaling up MMS and piloting SQ-LNS for children. CIFF commended SMC's innovations and expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh to observe field operations, while SAL highlighted strong alignment with SMC's approach.

Through this congress, SMC strengthened global partnerships, shared its innovations, and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing maternal and child nutrition in Bangladesh.
