‘Take Your Child to Work Day’ observed by U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh

In the United States, "Take Your Child to Work Day" is a nationwide event that offers children a firsthand glimpse into the professional world. This special day is observed on every fourth Thursday of April. This event is observed for the children of US Embassy staff where children learn about their parent's work and with whom their parents work. In 2023, on April 27, the U.S. Embassy community of Bangladesh enthusiastically celebrated the occasion with festivities. Both American and Bangladeshi staff members welcomed their children to the embassy premises, granting them a unique opportunity to gain insights into their parents' daily responsibilities. USAID invited SMC in this occasion at US Embassy as being a successful and long-term partner to showcase activities relevant to children.

Mr. Peter D. Haas, US Ambassador to Bangladesh delivered a welcome address, highlighting the purpose of the event and expressed gratitude to the parents and guests for their participation. As part of the event, SMC organized an interactive session to educate the kids about the importance of routine childhood nutrition checkup widely known as Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP). Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, MD & CEO of SMC, emphasized the role of SMC in implementing the nutritional activities in Bangladesh. He briefly shared the child health initiatives of SMC with the children and responded their queries. SMC displayed its various products in the event for the children and distributed those among the children after the session. Mr. Moshiur Rahman, Additional General Manager, Program Operations and Dr. Salah Uddin Ahmed, Additional General Manager, Training and Service Delivery, SMC accompanied Mr. Khan in the event. Later, along with other products, the children also experienced ‘SMC Plus', an electrolyte drink designed to keep individuals hydrated during periods of illness, extreme heat, or simply to satisfy their thirst.
