SMC Participates in PSI’s Asia/Eastern Europe Regional Meeting - 2013
A two-member SMC delegation comprising of Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, General Manager, Programme and Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, Head of Marketing visited Bangkok, Thailand from August 26-30, 2013, to attend the Asia and Eastern Europe Regional Meeting – 2013 of Population Services International (PSI). PSI is an international NGO headquartered in Washington, D.C.
During the meeting, Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan delivered a presentation on SMC titled “A Social Enterprise that Works – SMC in Bangladesh” to the PSI audience on August 28, 2013. The presentation was an overview of SMC and the sustainability on the principle of cross-subsidising for the lower income segment of society. The presentation was very well received by the PSI delegates and many of them expressed their interest in exchange visits between PSI and SMC.
Some of the marketing tools SMC used that generated interest among the participants include:
1. Pricing tools to ensure Optimal Pricing
2. Cost-recovery tools for the different levels SMC has across its products
3. Price elasticity studies done
4. Market segmentation studies done
The meeting was an opportunity for SMC to interact with PSI leaders from different countries across the Asia and East European region, as well as from PSI head quarters and share the success of SMC’s activities to the PSI family.
